5 Tips for Making Sure Your Wedding Flowers Preserve Beautifully

Your wedding bouquet is more than just a collection of blooms; it’s a reflection of your style and a keepsake of your special day. If you’re planning to preserve your wedding flowers, choosing the right blooms and taking proper care of them can make all the difference. Here are five tips to ensure your bouquet presses beautifully:

1. Let Your Florist Know

Certain flowers, such as mums and lisianthus, are naturally more water-heavy and can be challenging to press. If you’re planning to preserve your bouquet, let your florist know in advance so they can choose blooms that press more easily. At Peachy Petals, we also recommend avoiding floral foam in bouquets, as it can affect the preservation process. Additionally, if your florist wires flowers, it’s best to avoid hooking the top of the wire. This can sometimes cause the flower to fall apart during preservation.

2. Variety is Key

A mix of flower types and sizes can add visual interest to your pressed arrangement. Combining large focal flowers, like peonies or garden roses, with smaller filler flowers, like spray roses, ensures that your preserved bouquet has dimension and character. If you are willing to add color to your bouquet, it is always the right choice! Colorful flowers can bring vibrancy and personality to your preserved piece, making it a true reflection of your wedding day.

3. It’s Not Just About the Flowers

A beautifully pressed bouquet is more than just flowers; it’s about the overall bouquet composition. Incorporate greenery and textured elements like berries, amaranthus, billy balls, thistle, astrantia and more — the possibilities are endless! These elements often press wonderfully and create a balanced and visually stunning piece of art with depth and dimension.

4. Care for Your Bouquet on the Wedding Day

Your bouquet will be handled a lot on your wedding day, but taking simple steps to keep it in good condition can make preservation much easier. We suggest to our clients that they assign one of their bridesmaids or family members “flower duty” – their job is to keep your flowers in water and out of direct sunlight when they’re not being used for photos or the ceremony, as well as make sure they get to the right place after the wedding festivities end. Oh, and boutonnieres? They may fall apart if you dance like no one is watching. If you plan to hit the dance floor hard and want your boutonnière preserved, set the boutonniere down before you do.

5. Get Your Flowers to Your Preservation Artist Quickly

Timing is everything when it comes to flower preservation. The sooner your flowers reach your preservation artist, the better the results will be. Make arrangements ahead of time for delivery or shipping, and follow any specific instructions provided by your artist to ensure the flowers are in their best condition for pressing. This is also why it is key to book flower preservation before your big day.

Final Thoughts

Your wedding flowers are a tangible reminder of one of the most special days of your life. By selecting the right flowers, adding variety and texture, and caring for them properly, you’ll ensure that your bouquet presses beautifully and becomes a keepsake you’ll treasure forever.
